Our History
Established in 1954, the Houston Lodge is a part of the National Chinese American Citizens Alliance, a non-partisan Chinese American fraternal, benevolent non-profit organization founded in 1895. Our national organization began in San Francisco, California. It was formed as a result of unfair immigration laws passed solely against the Chinese called the "1882 Exclusion Act ". C.A.C.A. has been spearheading efforts against unfair immigration laws, working to promote naturalization and citizenship, participating in the census count, having equal educational economic opportunities, and advocating voter registration.

C.A.C.A. National Education Programs
National Internship ProgramApplication Deadline:
February 16, 2026 The National Internship Program offers prospective interns the opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in Washington, DC. Interns are mentored by experienced professionals, developing leadership skills and a deeper understanding of advocacy work. The program helps cultivate the next generation of Chinese American leaders dedicated to creating positive change in their communities. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have completed high school. This program is open to individuals with a passion for community engagement and advocacy work. It is a transformative 3-month internship in Washington, D.C., offering hands-on experience, meaningful connections, and participation in policy-oriented advocacy projects. Interns will collaborate closely with leaders from the National Parks Conservation Association. Apply for the 2026 Internship Program Location: Washington, DC Duration: 3 months (June - August 2026) Application deadline: Monday, February 16, 2026 (11:59 p.m. PT) Description: This immersive program offers hands-on experience with policy-oriented advocacy projects. Interns will work closely with leaders from the National Parks Conservation Association. It's a rare opportunity to develop leadership skills, build powerful connections, and shape history. The National Essay Contest is a celebrated tradition that promotes critical thinking, literacy, and historical awareness. Students across the nation submit essays on topics related to Chinese American experiences, achievements, and challenges. This contest not only sharpens students' writing skills but also inspires them to reflect deeply on the significance of their heritage and role within American society. This annual contest is open to any enrolled high school student in grades 9-12. Chinese American Citizens Alliance sponsors this essay contest to provide a forum for expression by the youth who will be the future leaders of the United States. |
